Special Needs Key Informant Focus Groups <br />Key Findings Report <br />August 2006 <br />Introduction <br />This document discusses and analyzes the process and key findings of the Key Informant <br />Focus Group sessions that were conducted with 58 participants in Stillwater Area <br />Community Education's Early Childhood Family Education and Adult Basic Education, <br />and Courage St. Croix programs. These individuals were recruited and self identified as <br />interested fiom among current clients and their parents to participate in the group <br />sessions. <br />The process was planned, organized and conducted during the months of July and August <br />2006, by the St. Croix Valley Area Community Family Center's Special Needs Suivey <br />Team and Wild City Resources. The team includes Directors and staff of Courage St. <br />Croix as well as Stillwater Area Community Education, Early Childhood Family <br />Education, and Adult Basic Education programs. The team is a subgroup of the <br />Integrated Planning Team, which is the planning authority for the St. Croix Valley Area <br />Community Family Center. The appended data reports were compiled by Community <br />Education, Early Childhood Family Education and analyzed by the Special Needs Team, <br />Decision Resources, Ltd. Wild City Resources. Wild City Resources developed this <br />report. <br />Background <br />The Key Informant Focus Group sessions were intended to provide a subjective user <br />friendly, method of assessing responses to the same key questions that were addressed in <br />the statistical study conducted in the School District by Decision Resources LTD. These <br />included general knowledge, level of support and preferences for the concept of an <br />Integrated Community Family Center, <br />The process was developed to provide access to the perceptions of current key special <br />needs clients who could not be effectively reached through a telephone survey. It was <br />initiated in order to assure that the opinions of individuals and families who experience <br />barriers to participation were considered during the planning and decision -making <br />process for the new St. Croix Valley Area Community Family Center. <br />
