7. MAINTENANCE/PARK/FIRE/BUILDING: <br />A. Update on Fire Dept. Activities: Fire Chief Malmquist <br />Chief Malmquist reported the Fire Prevention Open House will be held on October 8, 6- <br />8:30 at Oakland Jr. H.S. The raffle mailing went out late, but will be held on October 8`h. <br />He asked that the Council approve moving Bruce Cohen and Kevin Moore onto <br />probation. These two are potential daytime firefighters, but cannot make meetings at <br />night. <br />M/S/P Dunn /Siedow — to draft a resolution to move Bruce Cohen and Kevin Moore onto <br />the roster as a new probationary member on the Lake Elmo Fire Department. (Motion <br />passed 5-0.) <br />The Fire Chief asked what happened to the job description of the Full -Time Fire Fighter. <br />Mayor Hunt suggested the staff set up a workshop after the first Saturday in November <br />and to send the Fire Dept. a notice. <br />M/S/P Dunn/Siedow — to direct the Fire Chief to set up a Saturday workshop, for the <br />middle of November, with the Fire Dept., staff and Council. (Motion passed 5-0). <br />The Fire Chief suggested abolishing the Fire Study Committee and have the officers <br />review draft policies presented by the City Administrator. Mayor Hunt asked for the <br />Chief to work with Mary to come up with a draft and bring back to the membership. The <br />Fire Chief will bring the final revision back to the Fire Study Committee. <br />Council member Dunn indicated she will bring up for discussion at Wednesday night's <br />Highway 36 meeting, the request for a signal light at the intersection of Highway 36 and <br />CSAH17. Funding for this signal light was approved and provided to Washington <br />County. <br />8. CITY ENGINEER'S REPORT: <br />Council Member DeLapp received concerns on the tall grass from residents on 50t" <br />Street. He said he told the residents if they wanted to mow the grass, they probably could, <br />as the City is short staffed and unable to maintain the landscaping as well as usual. <br />9. PLANNING, LAND USE & ZONING: <br />A. Resolution 2002-105 Preliminary Plat of Lake Elmo Business Park <br />The City Planner reported at its September 23, 2002 meeting, the Planning Commission <br />made a recommendation to approve this proposed plat of 28 acres into 7 commercial lots <br />and 2 outlots. The application was first presented to the Planning Commission in June, <br />2002. The Commission determined supplemental information as in a traffic study was <br />required to enable them to complete their review and recommendation.
