R-75-40 <br />RESOLUTION <br />CITY OF LAKE ELMO <br />WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br />A RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING SUPPORT FOR LOCATION OF I-94 <br />ON SO-CALLED "NORTHERN ROUTE" AND URGING IMMEDIATE <br />COMPLETION 'THEREOF <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lake Elmo has on several occasions before this date informed <br />the Minnesota Highway Department of its resolutions supporting the construction of Inter - <br />State Highway 94 on the alignment northerly of existing Trunk Highway 12; which alignment <br />is generally referred to as the "northern route"; and <br />WHEREAS, a majority of the communities abutting or adjacent to the said Trunk High- <br />way 12 have approved and urged the construction of I-94 on said northern route; and <br />WHEREAS, the I-94 Management Study Committee after months of taking testimony, re- <br />view and study has recommended to the Minnesota Highway Department that I-94 be construc- <br />ted on said northern route; and <br />WHEREAS, there does not appear to be any disagreement among all interested persons <br />that the present Trunk Highway 12 is not sufficient to adequately and safely carry the <br />amount of traffic now using or crossing said highway; and <br />WHEREAS, there appears to be no reasonable or probable solution to this traffic and <br />safety problem other than the construction of a new controlled access highway such as the <br />proposed I-94; and <br />WHEREAS, the Minnesota Highway Department, since 1973, has been in a position to <br />complete acquisition of the necessary right-of-way and commence construction of I-94 <br />along the said northern route: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Lake Elmo as <br />follows: <br />1. That the Minnesota State Highway Department be, and the same hereby is, urged <br />to take immediate steps to begin construction of I-94 along said northern route at the <br />earliest possible date and to assign the highest priority to the project. <br />2. That the City Clerk be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to forward <br />copies of this Resolution to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, Minnesota Highway <br />Department, Senators Robert Brown and Jerome Hughes, Representatives Michael George, <br />Michael Sieben and Gary Laidig, the respective chairmen of the highway committees of <br />the Minnesota House and Senate, Metropolitan Council member Opal Peterson, Metropolitan <br />Council and the Washington County Board of Commissioners, together with a letter respect- <br />fully requesting that each of said persons or government agency give immediate considera- <br />tion and support to the construction of I--94 and said northern route as requested herein. <br />Passed by unanimous vote of the City Council of the City of Lake Elmo, this 16th <br />day of December, 1975. <br />May d L.
