Agenda Memo, July 7, 1981 meeting
page four
NEWSLETTER DISTRIBUTION, CIMARRON: Lillie advised me that they have tried to
get their shopper ( and our Newsletter) to Cimarron by car, carrier, plastic
bag, drop off at the Community Center, and ...everything short of mailing
them. It is not true that they don't want to hit this market. So, I concluded
that the only way to get the Newsletter to Cimarron residents is to mail
them there. If we mail them in the Shopper, Lillie will handle the labeling,
stuffing, and mailing for 140 each. This would cost about $75.00 per issue.
We not pay about $10.00 to mail out each issue to those who've requested it.
We also use our labor and envelopes. We would save these costs. Our net
cost would be $65.00.
The White Bear Press (St. Croix Valley Free Press) will stuff, label and
mail the 550 newletters for 5.8 0 each ($34.65). However, Lillie would
charge about $30.00 to print the extra copies, if they are not distributed
with the Shopper. So, the cost is about the same to have Lillie do it all.
If the Council believes it is important to get the Newsletter to Cimarrron,
I recommend we ask Lillie to mail it with their shopper.
AMM: Please see Maynard's Letter of recommendation.
METERS, HOURS on Lights in Pebble Park: The coin operated meters in Pebble Park
have been destroyed repeatedly. We are paying more to replace the meters than
we are collecting in the coin boxes. Therefore, I have suggested to Dave that
we eliminate the coin boxes; and replace them with metered free switches. The
switches are cheaper and a less attractive nuisance. They will help assure that
the lights are turned on for an hour at a time, only. If we put the lights on
straight meters (timers), they would have to be left on every night whether the
courts are in use or not ... on all courts. With the switches, at least, they
could be turned off when not in use. And, if turned on, they would only run
an hour.
I have a question about the hours for the lights in general. They seem to be
timed now so that someone can use the lights 'til 12:00 midnight. All other
parks close before 10:00p.m. Do you think it is a good idea to have the lights
in this park on after normal closing hours. It could be a nuisance to the
neighborhood.
AFTON PLAN: Please review the excerps from the plan sent to you. If you have
any questions or concerns, we should relay them to the Metro. Council and AFTON.
The Planning Commission had no concerns.
MISC. EQUIPMENT: Elmer will take his sickle sharpened with him if we do not want to
buy it. 1 think we should buy it. We need a weedeater. The crew is using hand 1 mT•-
trimmers. This takes an inordinate amount of time to trim around tennis courts and
the like.
Elmer has lined up a saddle tank (gas tank) for the pump trailer ... $65.00. I
recommmend we buy that, too.
I'll have prices for you Tuesday.
Happy July 4 !
