LAKE ELMO CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING, APRIL 3, 1985
Mayor Morgan called the special meeting to order at 6:52 p.m. in
the City Council chambers.
Present: Armstrong, Mazzara, Christ and Administrator Klaers and
the VBWD Board of Directors.
This special meeting was requested by the Lake Elmo City Council
to discuss the Sunfish Lake pumping petition with the Valley
Branch Watershed District. The mayor presented his concern to
VBWD regarding the higher preliminary fund estimate that would be
required, to be paid by the City, if the petition was not
successful. The Council had anticipated that the fund would be
approximately $5,000 and the estimate from VBWD came in at
approximately $15,000 per April 2, 1985 letter from Mr. Richard
Murrary, Secretary of VBWD. The City Council was looking for an
indication from VBWD of the possibility of this petition being
successful with this higher estimated cost prior to the City
requesting that VBWD proceed.
There was a discussion concerning temporary vs permanent
improvements on lakes and regarding the potential lawsuit by the
Sunfish Lake group which could, conceivably, stop the pumping from
Lake Jane to Park Pond. After a brief discussion between the
Council and VBWD, no action was taken by the Lake Elmo City
Council. This item will be on the April 16, 1985 City Council
agenda.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
