C.
101
surrounding those original ten homes were sampled. The results
of this residential sampling show:
-- Reduction of the contaminant plume is occurring. Three of
ten originally affected wells (Weber, L. Richert, F.
Downs) have now been below detection limits for several
samplings. The remaining affected wells are below MDH
Recommended Allowable Limits (RAL).
-- No new detection of VOC in residential wells has been
found.
-- Two wells continue to have granular activated carbon filters
which render their treated water below detection limits for
VOC's.
2. Monitoring Wells
-- Background, upgradient wells remain below detection limits
for contaminants.
-- Of the 26 on -site and perimeter wells, 14 show no detectable
concentrations of VOC's; five show detectable concentration
below the Recommended Allowable Limits; and seven wells (A,
I, H, GC2, S, V, R3) show evidence of contaminants exceeding
RAL.
-- Volatile scans (for 54 of the most commonly found VOC's) has
been completed on GC1, GC2, V and A. No new priority
pollutant compounds were found through these scans.
Site Excavation Report
Washington County Board of Commissioners, on June 14, 1988, received
and considered the site excavation feasibility report they had
requested be completed. After review of the report and discussion on
liability and cost issues, the Board determined that it would not
proceed with further consideration of this option at this time. A
copy of this report as well as correspondence from MPCA is attached.
Activities for the Remainder of 1988
-- Decision on NPDES permit by MPCA and County determination of next
actions based on that decision.
-- Quarterly sampling, October.
-- Completion of 1988 Evaluation Report and submission to MPCA in
October.
-- Development of 1989 Work Plan.
2
