I. The group agrees to pick up litter on a segment of state highwav selected in consultation with the Minnesota <br />Department of Transportation's (Mn/DOT) local office. Recommended length is two miles. At Mn/DOT's <br />discretion, certain highways may not be eligible 2. <br />The group shall review the safety training materials beforeeach pickup to alert participants to the hazards and <br />precautions of working on a highway right-of-way. <br />I The group shall pickup litter during- daylight hours only. Pickups may not be allowed at certain times such as on or , <br />near holidays.. <br />4. The group shall provide adequate supervision to partici <br />permitted, children eleven or younpants eighteen years of age or younger. Unless specifically <br />ger shall'not participate. <br />5., Work shall be limited to the area <br />•between the outer shoulders and the right-of-way boundary. Participants shall not <br />ck up litter in.the median unless specifically''permitted by Mn/DOT Work may not be done on the roadway itself. <br />6. The group shall arrange litter pickup date(s) in advance with the maintenance engineer or his/her designee in the <br />appropriate Mn/DOT office. The group shall obtain their supplies during regular business hours. <br />7.. The group shall place filled trashbags on the shoulder slope close to the ditch bottom Mn/DOT will arrange to pick <br />up the bags. Groups are encouraged to recycle appropriate materials for their own benefit. <br />S. Borrowed or unused supplies shall be returned to'the Mn/DOT office within one week <br />rlre,Minnesota Department of Transportation agrees to: _ <br />Provide high visibility vests, trashbags, safety training materials and temporary traffic warning signs when necessary - <br />as determined by Mn/DOT. <br />Arrange to remove filled trashbags from the adopted highway. <br />Arrange to remove large, heavy or hazardous material from the adopted highway. <br />Coordinate'publicity with the group to solicit local media coverage. <br />act a'highway sign or otherwise recognize the group's clean-up efforts. Highway signs shall be erected only for groups <br />at agree to adopt a highway for a minimum of two years. The name on the sign shall be limited to two lines of } <br />eighteen to twenty characters (including spaces). Mn/DOT reserves the right to approve and/or edit names or <br />acronyms. - <br />
