LAKE ELMO CITY COUNCIL MINUTES FEBRUARY 21, 1991 PAGE 7 <br />Along the line of cost reduction, Councilman Johnson suggested the <br />City should continue to encourage volunteer activity in the City. The <br />residents have a great history of volunteer work for the City. <br />Johnson referred to a proposal he made at an earlier meeting to <br />establish a Maintenance Advisory Committee with the function of <br />looking for cost reduction within the maintenance dept. and to advise <br />the Council of major purchases. At the next meeting, Councilman <br />Johnson will bring a recommendation on the function of the Maintenance <br />Advisory Committee. <br />The CIP committee will look into options for a Fire Dept. such as <br />looking at a county -wide fire dept. <br />E. "Coffee Break" - Mayor Johnson <br />The Stillwater Area Chamber of Commerce and Lake Elmo City Council <br />will hold a "Coffee Break" on Tuesday, February 26th, 8:00-9:00 a.m. <br />at City Hall. <br />9. CITY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT: <br />A. Furnace for Maintenance Bldg. (Cont.) <br />The Maintenance Dept. received three bids for a 90% efficient gas <br />furnace. The bids received. are: <br />Apollo Heating - $2895.00 <br />Hoffman Heating - $3050.00 <br />Schwantes Heating - $2807.00 <br />M/S/P Williams/Dave Johnson - to award. the bid to the low bidder, <br />Schwantes Heating in the amount of $2807.00 to be taken out of the <br />1991 Equipment, Parts & Repairs Budget as recommended by the Finance <br />Director, for a 90% efficient gas furnance for the Maintenance <br />Building. (Motion carried 3-0-1 Abstain: Mottaz). <br />B. Word Processor for Maintenance Dept. <br />The Maintenance Dept. has requested permission to purchase a Brother <br />WP-75 (approx. $500) word processor. The Maintenance Dept. feels they <br />could keep better records of its inventory, the 201 maintenance, water <br />records, equipment repair and maintenance. <br />M/No Second Mottaz/No Second - to authorize the Maintenance Dept. to <br />purchase the Brother WP-75 word processor up to the amount of $500. <br />Councilman Williams asked that this request be remanded to the CIP <br />Committee to investigate if a word processor over the long term would <br />be the right purchase or would a personal computer be a better <br />investment. <br />M/S/P Dick Johnson/Williams - to remand this request for study to the <br />CIP Committee as they are in the process of considering computer <br />purchase for City office. <br />
