The County Attorney is asking for authorization
to prosecute misdemeanor assaults committed against children in
the City of Lake Elmo. Without your authorization I, as City
Prosecutor, would be responsible for prosecuting these cases.
I strongly recommend that you authorize the Washington
County Attorney to prosecute all misdemeanor assault cases where
the victims are minors. I make this recommendation for the
following reasons:
1. There will be no cost to the City.
2. The County Attorney's Office has a. full-time victim -witness
coordinator, the City cannot afford one.
3. The County Attorney's office enjoys a close day to day
working relationship with the county's child protection workers.
4. Participation in this program will greatly facilitate a
better coordinated child protection efforts in the county.
