LAKE ELMO CITY COUNCIL BUDGET WORKSHOP THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 1992 Mayor Johnson called the budget workshop p.m. in the city park building. PRESENT: Mottaz, Hunt, Dick Johnson, Williams, and Marilyn Banister '•�M A i{ "NV �k+��WYl'b,.+. 1T'A' x"�1.�'9ph�,"A'�:��(?i '�'"�;Hi"$'F%<fA•r , to order at 7:05 Mayor Johnson, Finance Director Marilyn Banister provided the Council with a 9-page DRAFT of the Proposed 1993 Lake Elmo Budget. The following was discussed. PAGE 3: EXPENSE Mayor & Council: Mayor Johnson proposed the following increase in City Council salaries: Mayor $3200, City Council $2700 which would be amount to $15,501.60 Councilmen Hunt and Johnson indicated they were serving on the council because they wanted to and looked at this payment as a compensation for their expenses and as long as they are covering their expenses they would be against an increase. Councilman Mottaz felt it was a reasonable increase as long as it was for those newly elected officials. Staff Salaries $35,000 spread amongst the staff with percentages of increase to be determined by the Council Contractual Service: Civil Defense Fran Pott requested a defense siren at Station No.2 ($9,750 as a capital outlay item). The Council indicated this was a safety issue and they would like to see a siren added as a capital outlay item to the budget. Elections: Optical Scanner: Leave it in the budget PAGE4: EXPENSE (Continued) Contractual: Newsletter At least 4 times a year, $1000 an issue ($5,000 in budget). Councilman Mottaz suggested adding additional staff because he did not think our City Administrator should have to do the newsletter. Other Charges: Conf & Schools Councilman Williams indicated he would like to see everyone on the staff attend a conference a year.
