Division of Forestry, 1200 Warner Road, St. Paul, Minnesota 55�( <br />L O. <br />December 17, 1993 <br />TO: Mayors, Program Managers, City Foresters, Tree Inspectors, Non -Profit <br />Organizations, Community Groups, and Other Interested Parties <br />The Department of Natural Resources -Division of Forestry in cooperation with <br />the USDA Forest Service, the US Small Business Administration (SBA) and the <br />Minnesota Shade Tree Advisory Committee announces two grant programs for <br />urban and community forestry projects. Funds will be available to local units of <br />government (municipalities, townships, counties, school districts, SWCDs, etc.) and <br />non-profit organizations on a competitive basis for tree planting and other <br />community forestry projects. <br />The first program, entitled the "Urban and Community Forestry Challenge <br />Grants Program", will provide funds for local projects including program <br />(' development (government and non-profit organization), information and education <br />projects, and tree planting projects (using local government crews and/or <br />volunteers). A total of $150,000 is available statewide with applications due by <br />March 4, 1994. <br />The second program, entitled the SBA "Natural Resources Development <br />Program", is a tree planting initiative for the purposes of contracting with small <br />businesses to plant trees on public land. A total of $152,000 will be available <br />statewide with applications due by March 11, 1994. <br />A detailed description of each program including eligible projects, specific <br />program participation criteria, and application materials can be obtained by <br />contacting the appropriate Division of Forestry Region contact person (see <br />enclosed map and listing). <br />If you have any questions, or need additional information, please contact <br />your Regional Forestry Office, or call me at 612-772-7563.
