r <br />The Planning Commission <br />• Nevertheless, it acts as a sounding board of <br />public opinion, with the long term interests <br />of the community in mind. <br />• Is not bound by political expediency, election <br />promises, or short term narrow interests. <br />• Can work towards consensus solutions which <br />may not evolve from more politicized elected <br />officials. <br />• Can act as a "lightning rod" to draw out and <br />clarify the issues on both sides of a question. <br />• Can provide findings of fact and an unbiased <br />review, based on their familiarity with City <br />Ordinances. <br />• Can chose to study any aspect of City Planning <br />by adding it to the annual work plan. <br />• The Council by majority vote, can rescind or <br />change any Commission recommendation if it <br />so chooses. <br />• For good relationships, the motivations behind <br />Council decisions need to be understood by <br />the Commission. <br />
