This coming year MEDP will unveil its new three-year strategic plan. This ambitious plan sets high standards for performance and reinforces MEDP's firm commitment to measurable goals. Copies will be mailed in early 1999. In the past three years, MEDP has been involved in successful economic development projects that have resulted in over $220 million in new capital investment. These projects have resulted in more than 7,100 new and retained jobs. It is upon this base that the organization hopes to build. The Board of Directors has charted a new course for MEDP. The organization will be focusing its efforts on attracting investment into the region. Investment in land, buildings, technology, and the work force. MEDP will be working with expanding businesses that use the latest technology and skills. MEDP is also Minnesota's first economic development organization,to begin an industry cluster program. Working with the Information Technology Council, MEDP will hire a specialist to begin work with the exciting and expanding information technology industry. MEDP will also be initiating an investor relations program in 1999. This program is aimed at keeping investors aware of our activities. We also hope to provide investors with business opportunities and opportunities to participate in MEDP projects. The Metro East Development Foundation has also been organized.
