Motion passed 5 - 0. <br />ITEM 19 Fire Department Staffing: <br />Fire Chief Malmquist presented information on current staffing, response types and statistics. <br />Staffing cost comparison and potential costs were also reviewed. Discussion was held regarding <br />specific equipment used to respond to specific types of calls. <br />Dave Moore, Public Safety Committee member, stated that fire department staffing is a <br />nationwide problem and urged the City to avoid taking short cuts. <br />Cullen Case, Public Safety Committee member, stated that option B presented in the council <br />meeting packet is the best option to meet the City's current and future needs. <br />Lisa McGinn, Public Safety Committee member, expressed a need to hire firefighters now and <br />continue to plan for the future. <br />Mayor Pearson, seconded by Councilmember Bloyer, moved TO APPROVE OPTIONA AS <br />PRESENTED WITHA CAP OF 24 HOURS PER WEEK. Motion passed 5 — 0. <br />Councilmember Fliflet, seconded by Councilmember Lundgren, moved TO DIRECT STAFF <br />TO WORK WITH THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE AND ANY COUNCILMEMBERS <br />THAT WANT TO BE INVOLVED TO EXPLORE THE OPTION OF AN EAST METRO <br />FIRE DISTRICT AND OTHER LONG TERMSOLUTIONS. <br />Mayor Pearson, seconded by Councilmember Bloyer, moved TO TABLE THE PRIMARY <br />MOTIONAND REFER THE MATTER TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE FOR <br />DISCUSSION.
