In 2013, The City Council authorized the creation of a local Economic Development Authority (EDA). Per MN State Statutes, the mayor of a municipality has the authority and responsibility to appoint members of the local EDA. The appointment must be affirmed by the members of the City Council. In 2013, the Mayor appointed five regular members and one alternate to the newly
created Lake Elmo EDA. In addition, two members of the Council are required to be appointed
to the EDA. Mayor Pearson appointed himself and Council Member Park to the authority. Due to Council Member Park’s resignation effective July 16, 2013, there is currently a vacancy on the EDA that needs to be filled by a Council Member.
