FISCAL IMPACT: $270 SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED: As part of the Consent Agenda, the City Council is respectfully requested to consider approval to remove the interest assessed to parcels
05.029.21.41.0005 and 05.029.21.41.0006 from the 2014 assessment roll with Washington County. BACKGROUND INFORMATION/STAFF REPORT: Washington County recently notified the Finance Director that the State of Minnesota does not pay penalties, interest or costs unless
specifically provided for by law. The mentioned parcels are owned by the Minnesota DNR. Since the Finance Director was unaware of this exception for state of Minnesota parcels, the assessments were filed with interest to be calculated by the County, as for all other assessments. As a result, an abatement form needs to be filed with the County in order to remove the interest
from their account. This will also update their file going forward so that no interest is calculated on the remaining installments due on this assessment.

RECOMMENDATION: Based on the fact that the State of Minnesota does not pay interest on assessments, it is recommended that the City Council approve Resolution 2014-70 so that an abatement of the assessments can be filed with Washington County.
