Mayor Facilitates POLICY RECOMMENDER: Engineering FISCAL IMPACT: $12,427.86 This change order provides compensation to the contractor for special traffic control signs as directed in the field by Washington County to improve safety along Lake Elmo Avenue; removal of restoration, valves, and fittings associated with the intersection of Lake Elmo Avenue and 10th Street by removing a future stub connection along 10th Street; and adding 16-inch pipe sleeve fittings necessary to complete the work and increases the contract amount by $12,427.86. With approval of this change order the revised contract amount is $2,028,115.25. The construction contract therefore remains within the original total project budget as authorized on June 3, 2014. SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED: The City Council is respectfully requested to consider approving, as part of the consent agenda, Change Order No. 1 for the Lake Elmo Avenue Trunk Watermain Improvements Project, thereby increasing the Contract amount by $12,427.86. If removed from the consent agenda, the recommended motion for the action is as follows: City Council Meeting [Consent Agenda Item 9] October 21, 2014 -- page 2 -- “Move to approve Change Order No. 1 for the Lake Elmo Avenue Trunk Watermain Improvements, thereby increasing the contract amount by $12,427.86.” LEGISLATIVE HISTORY/BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This change order provides compensation to the contractor for the following items: 1. Add special traffic control signs as directed in field by Washington County to improve safety along Lake Elmo Avenue. 2. Remove restoration, valves, and fittings associated with the intersection of Lake Elmo Avenue and 10th Street by removing a future stub connection along 10th Street. 3. Add pipe fittings necessary to complete the work. The fitting quantities did not include these payable items into the original contract. The above described changes were not included in the original contract and result in an increase to the contract of $12,427.86. With this change order the project remains well within the authorized project budget and contingencies. RECOMMENDATION: Staff is recommending that the City Council consider, as part of the Consent Agenda, approving Change Order No. 1 for the Lake Elmo Avenue Trunk Watermain Improvements thereby increasing the contract amount by $12,427.86. If removed from the consent agenda, the recommended motion for this action is as follows: “Move to approve Change Order No. 1 for the Lake Elmo Avenue Trunk Watermain Improvements, thereby increasing the contract amount by $12,427.86.” ATTACHMENT(S): 1.
