HomeMy WebLinkAboutFire Chief November Update MAYOR & COUNCIL COMMUNICATION -- page 1 -- DATE: December 20, 2016 CONSENT ITEM #6 MOTION AGENDA ITEM: Monthly Fire Department Update SUBMITTED BY: Greg Malmquist, Fire Chief THROUGH: City Administrator SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED: Review monthly activity update from fire department. Advise on any additional information requested. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: On going monthly report to Council of Fire Department Activities. 34 calls for November. 2 Fire alarms with no fire – unintentional 7 Dispatched and cancelled en route 20 Medicals 1 Car accident with injuries 1 Outside equipment fire 1 Special outside fire, other 2 Steam or other gas mistaken for smoke A CV did not respond on 4 of the calls for the month for a response rate of 88%. Average response time was great at an average of 5.5 minutes. 6 of our calls had 3 or less responders minus the CV. 3 of those calls had only 1 responder minus the CV. Training Drills for the month were: #1 – CEU ICS (Incident Command System) #2 – Search and Rescue #3 – Quarterly EMS with Regions - 2 of our fire fighters completed Fire Officer 1 training with Century College - Both Chief’s attended VCOS Conference this month Points of interest: There were significant vehicle repairs needed this month. City Council Meeting [Consent Agenda Item #6) December 20, 2016 -- page 2 -- - CV2 needed a new transmission as well as upper and lower ball joints on both sides along with brakes all around and misc. $5,002.70 - E1 identified repairs from inspection, (pump, A/C, lighting) and additional engine work. $3,780.49 - Truck radios needed repair or are in the process of repair in both Ladder 1 and Engine 2. - Ladder 1 also needs significant electrical repair due to a short in the wires. Thankfully, most of the electrical repairs are warranty work. - The Engine 2 jake brake suffered a complete failure and required a complete rebuild. Engine 2 also requires and is in the process of getting pump gauge repairs completed. - Out of Service approx.. 2 weeks - Utility 2 is scheduled for a new siren controller as the old one shorted out and started on fire. U2 is also getting some minor marker light repair completed. – Cannot respond emergency until repaired RECOMMENDATION: Review monthly update.
