ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Review month end activity update from fire department. Advise on any additional information requested.
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
We had 44 calls in September.

A command vehicle did not respond on 12 calls for a response rate of 78%. Average response time was
7.7 minutes. 15 calls had 3 or less responders minus the Duty Officer with 6 calls having only 1
personnel on the apparatus.
Department drills for the Month:
#1 – ICS (Incident Command System) Fire ground communications
#2 – Annual physical agility test
Points of Interest:
• Both newly hired part time fire fighters have completed their physical agility tests and are
continuing through the placement process. The paid on call personnel have begun covering
shifts as of the last week of September as they are currently employees and do not need to go
through the hiring process. We are already seeing the benefits of the part time fire fighters in
the short time the shifts have been running.
• One of the benefits of having part time firefighters is that it has freed up Captain Witter to give
more attention to an initiative that will be rolling out sooner than expected now. The program
is called SAFE HAVEN and will impact the entire city. Stay tuned for more information.
• The department hosted a large regional school group of about 40 kids and adults which was well
received and appreciated by all involved.
