HomeMy WebLinkAbout#21 - Lions Park Change Order #2 STAFF REPORT DATE: 10/17/2017 REGULAR ITEM #: 21 MOTION TO: City Council FROM: Rob Weldon, Public Works Director AGENDA ITEM: Lions Park Change Order #2 – Increase Infield Size REVIEWED BY: Kristina Handt, City Administrator BACKGROUND: During the August 1, 2017 City Council meeting it was approved to award a contract for Lions Park Improvements. These improvements include field grading and alignment with the 45th Parallel, perimeter fence, and lighting. Miller Architecture as approved by City Council in September 2016 conducted site design for the area to include a ballfield. The infield was designed all along with 60 foot bases. This spacing is typically what is required for softball and youth under 12, who are the main users of the field. ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the City Council approve Change Order #2 to increase the infield dimensions to accommodate 75ft baselines? PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: Despite having included Lake Elmo Baseball in the discussion of the field from the beginning, this past week they communicated to staff that they need base paths that are 75ft in length and a pitcher’s mound at 52ft. It is the understanding of staff that Miller Architecture gathered input from Lake Elmo Baseball in the design phase of improvements and no comment was made regarding 75ft base paths. Plans were subsequently designed and approved for a field with 60ft bases and the contract for said work was approved on August 1, 2017. FISCAL IMPACT: Cost to lengthen the ball field to accommodate 75ft base paths and a 52ft pitcher’s mound would be $5,400. Lake Elmo Baseball has agreed to donate $5,400 to this project. Therefore, there will be no impact to City funds or park funds.
