BACKGROUND: Chapter 73: Parking Regulations of the City Code currently prohibits parking in certain “No
Parking” zones throughout the City, unless a temporary parking permit has been issued by the City
Administrator. There are a number of new developments that have streets that do not meet street
width standards for parking on both or even one side of the street, according to adopted City
Engineering Standards.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: The City Council is being asked to consider Ord. 08-XXX which adds streets within new developments that do not meet City Engineering Standards for street width for parking on both or
one side of the street.
REVIEW/ANALYSIS:
Adopted City Engineering Standards indicate the following minimum street width for parking:
• Both sides of the street: 28 feet
• One side of the street: 24 feet
• No parking: 22 feet or less Streets with No or One-Sided Parking Added. As previously stated, there are a number of new developments that have streets that do not meet these standards. These street names need to be
added to Schedule I. Parking Prohibited of Chapter 73: Parking Schedules.
Fines Removed. Lastly, fines for parking of trailers was stricken, as the City no longer references administrative citations in the Code. The process outlined in the amended Section 10.99 shall be followed.

FISCAL IMPACT: Most of the new/proposed No Parking areas are signed properly. The only areas that are not signed (signs are not called for in approved plans) are in Boulder Ponds and Savona along 5th St and Junco Ave in Savona.
These areas would require about 17 signs at approx. $100 each installed by PW Staff. RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is being asked to discuss the proposed changes and direct staff whether or not to
move this item forward to a future Council Meeting.
