ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the City Council approve Change Order No. 2 for the 2017 Street
Improvements?
BACKGROUND: Hardrives, Inc. was awarded a construction contract to complete the 2017 Street
Improvements on May 16, 2017. The project is in construction with a substantial completion date of
September 22, 2017.
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: Hardrives, Inc. has submitted a change order to address two
design changes requested by the City as follows:
1. Adjust the concrete curb and gutter stringline to provide smooth transitions and verify boulevard
drainage. The existing roads were not paved a consistent width and this additional work was
needed to field design the width transitions.
2. Install a concrete valley gutter at Jamaca Boulevard and 53rd Street. The valley gutter was
installed per plan to better facilitate drainage through the intersection but did not have a bid item
for payment purposes.
3. Provide an operator and equipment to stockpile reclaim gravel material at Public Works. The
contractor was asked to assist Public Works with the proper equipment to handle the material and
pace of delivery of the material to the Public Works site.
FISCAL IMPACT: This change order will increase the contract in the amount of $12,169.96 bringing
the revised construction contract to $1,066,118.35. With this change order the project remains within the
authorized project budget and contingencies.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff is recommending that the City Council approve, as part of the Consent
Agenda, Change Order No. 2 for the 2017 Street Improvements. If removed from the consent agenda, the
recommended motion for the action is as follows:
“Move to approve Change Order No. 2 for the 2017 Street Improvements, thereby increasing the
contract amount by $12,169.96”.
