ITEM: “Sunfish Lake Park West” site review

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Clean-up of the Washington County Landfill began on June 2 and is scheduled to be complete no
later than October 31, 2012. The work is being done to address groundwater contamination
including PFC's and other contaminants. Once complete, the footprint of the actual landfill will be
reduced by approximately 6 acres. These 6 acres then, will be available for to the city for
recreational purposes.
The commission has requested to visit the site. Enclosed is a map of the site indicating a rough
estimation of the existing and final landfill footprints. In addition, staff is requesting a final grading
plan so the commission can get a sense of the contours of the area, as well as any constraints or
limitations that might be placed on the area by the MPCA. The purpose of the review is to begin
to do some planning for the site as well as the pursuit of funding opportunities.
