ITEM: Discussion on Sunfish Lake Park parking area improvements / planning

The 2010 Park Capital Improvement Program includes $12,000 for “boulders, gate and
landscaping” at Sunfish Lake Park. These improvements have been scheduled with the primary
goal of “managing” and defining the parking area. As indicated in the S.F.L.P. conservation
easement, facilities and amenities shall be constructed with materials, textures and colors that
are “natural” in character and consistent with natural surroundings. Consequently, the
Commission has expressed an interest defining the parking area with the placement of boulders
to serve as “barriers” as opposed to fabricated or manufactured parking area barrier system.
At the December Park Commission meeting, staff was directed to research the opportunity to
acquire boulders from a local source for placement as parking lot barriers, as well as whether
boulders might be available from the landfill site. Staff was also asked to begin developing a
schematic plan that would include quantities and locations of various desired amenities in the
parking area. Staff will report on progress on these fronts.
