ITEM: Update on MPCA construction activities at the Washington County
landfill and the request for easements to place two monitoring wells in
Sunfish Lake Park

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Currently there are 2 monitoring wells that have been placed within Sunfish Lake Park by the
MPCA. These wells are relatively unobtrusive, small in size, and painted black. The MPCA has
recently expressed the need for an additional monitoring well (and associated easement) at each
of these locations. These wells will be differently than those currently in place in that they will be
deeper and allow the agency to monitor water quality in the bedrock. Carol Kriegler and Kathy
Widin have visited each of the two sites to assess the potential impact, which is considered to be
minimal.
Carol Kriegler will provide further information regarding this issue including an outline of the
limitations of the easement.
Construction activity at the Washington County landfill is expected to begin in the next couple of
weeks in an effort to remediate PFC contamination at the site. Carol Kriegler will provide an
update as to a schedule and what types of activities are expected to occur at the landfill over the
coming couple of years.
