BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Sunfish Lake Park prairie restoration project is entering its second growing season. Carol
Kriegler will provide an update on the status of the prairie as well as an overview of anticipated
management activities for the coming season. In addition, plans will be presented for
accomplishing the planting of 2000 native seedlings prior to the close of the DNR prairie
restoration grant period, June 31 of this year.
In preparation for the seedling plantings, members of the Commission are encouraged to meet at
the prairie at 6:00. The intent of the site visit is to determine desirable cluster seedling planting
locations along the trail. Clusters of seedlings were planted in 8 locations along the trail last
September.
The Parks Commission is asked to provide comment and direction for recruiting volunteers to
plant seedlings in the prairie on their own time between May 20 and 31.
