BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Park Commissioner Judith Blackford has developed a document detailing the history of Sunfish
Lake Park. After many months of research and recording of events related to the park’s history,
Commissioner Blackford is requesting that the document be reviewed and accepted by the Parks
Commission. The purpose of the document is to have written record of significant park related
events, particularly those involving the many significant efforts that have gone into the acquisition,
improvement, protection, and conservation and acquisition of the park.
For long-time residents and those involved in appointed/elected positions for Lake Elmo, the
value of this history speaks for itself. For those not having a background on this beloved park, a
recording of it’s long and rich will be of interest, appreciated and a valuable resource to future
commissions, councils, and citizens to come. Knowing a history of a place where you live and
the people who came before you and the stories of the land are priceless.
Action Requested:
The Park Commission is being asked to review and provide comment on the document and
ultimately accept it as a record of the park’s history. The Commission might also want to consider
how this recording of history might be shared with the community such as through the City’s
website, future newsletters, interpretive signage at the park, etc.
