HomeMy WebLinkAbout10 02 07ITcc City Council Date: 10/2/07 CONSENT Item: 5 Motion ITEM: Purchase of replacement personal computers SUBMITTED BY: Tom Wegner, IT consultant REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator Tom Bouthilet, Finance Director
SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED: The city council is being asked to approve the purchase of 10 desktops to replace the outdated personal computers of the staff, one laptop outfitted with a Sprint Mobile card for future field use, three screens, and one large screen requested by Chief Malmquist. The city is in the process of bringing its software and hardware up to date so the staff can function efficiently. Many computers are outdated and operate inefficiently. There is no standardization among computers so diagnosing problems and repairing them varies from computer to computer. They limit the ability of the staff to do cross train and carry out work efficiently. Tom Wegner, our new IT consultant, is recommending replacing these PCs at a cost of $14,000. (Details on price comparisons will be forthcoming and who we are purchasing from). Tom is an experienced IT consultant who provides service and advice to a number of cities and small businesses that are comparable in size and needs to Lake Elmo. This is the lowest price of three vendors including the state contract. The funding is available in the capital funds for this work. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Cost comparisons: XXX State contract XXX
