HomeMy WebLinkAbout8-19-08 Probation Klein - Firefighter Cornell City Council Date: 8/19/2008 REGULAR Item: 3 ITEM: Conditional job offer to Chris Klein and Approve Employment Status Change for Mike Cornell SUBMITTED BY: Greg Malmquist, Fire Chief REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator Tom Bouthilet, HR/Finance Director SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED: The city council is being asked to make a conditional job offer to Chris Klein as a firefighter in the department contingent on his passing a pre-placement physical. He has met the requirements to this point (background check, attended three meetings, ability test and interview process). Upon successful completion of the physical he shall be placed on probation status with the fire department. This will bring the number of probationary firefighters to 4; there are currently 27 firefighters (4of which are probationary) on the department. Compensation is $7.04/call for probationary firefighters. You are also being asked to move Mike Cornell from Probationary Status to Firefighter Status. Mike has met all of the probationary requirements. He has successfully completed State Certified Firefighter I & II, HazMat Awareness and Operations, State Certified First Responder and CPR. He has also maintained his call and training percentages. RECOMMENDATION: Chief Malmquist recommends approval of both, the conditional job offer and status change. SUGGESTED MOTION FOR CONSIDERATION Motion to make conditional job offer to Chris Klein pending the outcome of his department physical and then to be placed on probationary status with the fire department if his physical is passed and to also move Mike Cornell from Probationary Status to Firefighter Status.
