HomeMy WebLinkAbout8-21-07 ElevWaterTank No 2 Final Acceptance City Council Date: August 21, 2007 CONSENT Item: 4 Resolution 2007-057 ITEM: Resolution accepting work for the Lake Elmo Elevated Water Storage Tank No. 2 SUBMITTED BY: Jack Griffin, City Engineer REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator Tom Bouthilet, Finance Director Jerry Filla, City Attorney Ryan Stempski, Assistant City Engineer SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED: The city council is being asked to accept the work completed by Gen-Con Construction under contract for the Elevated Water Storage Tank No. 2. The work has been reviewed by staff and is fully completed in accordance with the contract, plans and specifications, and change orders. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Due to the discovery of the water tower’s concrete shaft construction being out of tolerance at one location, some additional warranty was obtained from the contractor in Change Order No. 2C. These revisions included the following: • Additional 5 year performance warranty, which would extend out to October 24, 2011. • The Contractor shall perform one, three, and five year inspections in the presence of the Owner and Engineer. • If issues are identified related to the concrete shaft, the Contractor shall make approved repairs at no cost to the City of Lake Elmo. • The City of Lake Elmo has retained $3,879.50 to hire an independent review of the water tower during the one, three, and five year inspections. RECOMMENDATION It is hereby recommended that the city council approve Resolution No. 2007-057 accepting the work for Elevated Water Storage Tank No. 2. The Engineer’s project final acceptance will be sent to the contractor providing the start and end dates for the warranty period and final payment will be made including the release of all retained funds.
