SUBMITTED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED: The city council is being asked to hear a presentation on the status of the Lucy Winton Ball Fields from Colleen Danford and Steve Hobbs of Belwin. The presentation will bring the city council up to date on the status of the fields and the planned capital improvements to the fields. The organization is seeking $400,000 in capital contributions. $100,000 in funding has been raised to date including $25,000 from the Andersen Corporation. Cities, whose citizens use the fields, are being asked to contribute to the capital campaign in the amount of $8/child or $12,000 for Lake Elmo this year and every five years toward this facility. In the past, the city has declined to contribute because the city has many park resources that it manages to serve these needs. If the city council desires to contribute, the funds would need to come from the city’s capital funds. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The Lucy Winton Ball fields are located on land donated by the Belwin Foundation, a non profit environmental organization. The organization also builds the buildings and provides the staff to maintain and manage this youth athletic facility.
