A PCA public meeting on the options was held on February 21, 2008. The city council has discussed this topic at prior city council meetings and workshops. To date the city council’s position has been to ask for a permanent solution including the ‘truck and dig’ option with or without a plasma burner. This position is based upon the city’s and citizens’ history with re-emerging contamination at the landfill, which is on a gravel pit and where garbage was dumped and in the water. If more review of a letter is needed, the city council may finalize its comments at its March 11, 2008 meeting. Legislation on this topic is in flux. A draft letter will be prepared after more is known about the legislative status of the bill. SUGGESTED MOTION FOR CONSIDERATION Move to provide a letter of comment which clearly asks for a permanent solution at the Washington County Landfill and which recognizes the history of contamination and remediation solutions at the site.
