HomeMy WebLinkAbout#04 - October 2019 Fire Department Report STAFF REPORT DATE: November 19, 2019 CONSENT TO: City Council FROM: Greg Malmquist, Fire Chief AGENDA ITEM: Month End Fire Department Update for October 2019 REVIEWED BY: Kristina Handt, City Administrator ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Review month end activity update from fire department. Advise on any additional information requested. PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: We had 51 calls in October: 3 Cancelled en route 35 Medicals 3 Car accidents with injuries 2 Fire Alarms 1 Grass Fire 1 Gas Leak 6 Misc. 51 Total A Command vehicle did not respond on 19 calls for a response rate of 62%. Our average response time was 7.8 minutes from alarm to arrival. 22 calls had 3 or less responders minus the Duty Officer with 5 calls having only 1 personnel on the first due apparatus. 20 calls this month had only shift personnel for responders. There was also 1 call on Columbus Day for “smoke in the residence” in which the Chief was the only responder. Thankfully, it was a false alarm. Drills for the Month: #1 - Class A burn at the East Metro Training Center #2 - Driving and familiarization of the new Rescue truck Points of Interest: - The Rescue Engine has arrived. The equipment is being put on it and we are starting the in-service training for it. - The entire fleet went through the annual DOT inspection. There are multiple items found requiring repairs which will be completed ASAP. - Part Time FF Cameron Huntington has tendered his recognition effective in November. Part Timer Accomplishments: - Continued working on hydrant paddle replacement and GIS labeling. - Cleaning and general maintenance at both stations. - Practical drills as assigned during shifts. - Training on assisting with fire inspections. - Vehicle and equipment inspections. - Assisted with Burn Permit applications. - 2 Safe Haven Inspections were completed this month. - Conducted initial inspection of 24 office spaces in the Eagle Point Business Park, data entry, delivered correction notices and scheduling follow up inspections.
