HomeMy WebLinkAbout#04 - Advertise for PT FirefighterSTAFF REPORT
DATE: November 5, 2019
CONSENT
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Greg Malmquist, Fire Chief
AGENDA ITEM: Authorize Advertising for Part Time Firefighters.
REVIEWED BY: Kristina Handt, City Administrator
BACKGROUND:
On March 20, 2018, the City Council approved “Advertising for Part Time Firefighters” to fill vacancies
and to create a one year wait list. With the recent resignation of PT FF Cameron Huntington and the
vacancy created, we would like to advertise to fill the vacancy and create a new wait list.
To avoid the need to revisit this every time we have vacancies, we would like to create an ongoing wait
list with no expiration. E believe that would expedite the process in the future and allow us to accept
applications as they come to us. We would only advertise for position openings when a vacancy occurs
and/or we need to replenish the wait list.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
Should the Council approve authorizing advertising for Part Time Firefighters and create a wait list?
PROPOSAL:
Staff would like to advertise for the hiring of Part Time Firefighters to build an applicant list. This should
help us fill our current opening and any vacancies that may arise, without the need to go through the entire
process again.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There will be no additional wage impact. The only additional costs will be for the necessary uniforms,
training and turnout gear for new personnel when hired.
RECOMMENDATION:
“Move to approve authorize advertising for Part Time Firefighters and creating a wait list.”
