BACKGROUND: When the Public Works Facility was constructed in 2006 it was decided to include
decorative enhancements to the garage doors of the facility to provide an esthetic appeal while giving the
building the look of a barn. These enhancements were added after the garage door openers and springs
were installed and added additional weight to the doors and openers causing excess wear and repairs.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the City Council approve the purchase and replacement of three
garage doors and one opener at the Public Works Facility?
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: The proposed door replacement would replace all three garage
doors with new insulated doors, standard white in color with windows to provide natural lighting. Also,
the opener in wash bay would be replaced as this opener is in a high moisture area.
FISCAL IMPACT: Cost of the described replacement is $10,670 dollars with funding from the 2019
General Budget. As part of the 2019 General Budget $10,000 was included for this replacement but
estimates have exceeded that amount.
OPTIONS:
• Approve garage door and opener replacement
• Deny garage door and opener replacement
• Amend proposed garage door and opener replacement
RECOMMENDATION:
“Motion to approve the replacement of three garage doors and one opener in an amount not to exceed
$11,000 with work performed by Great Garage Door Company”
