AGENDA ITEM: Approve Massage Therapy Premises License

BACKGROUND: The City of Lake Elmo instituted a city license structure in December of 2012
in order to better regulate the practice of therapeutic massage in Lake Elmo. Licenses are subject
to approval by the City Council.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
Should Council approve the requested license?
PROPOSAL: The City has received a Massage Therapy Premises License application from Bridget
Relander for a new license to operate a massage therapy business at 8530 Eagle Point Blvd. #100
under the name Regus – Bridget Relander Massage. The appropriate fees have been paid and all
required documentation has been provided, including training and insurance information. Ms.
Relander is currently licensed and employed in the City of Apple Valley as a massage therapist
and has leased space in Lake Elmo. The premises permit includes one massage therapist (Ms.
Relander); additional licenses would be required if another massage therapist is added in the future.
Washington County Sheriff’s Department is conducting a background check.
FISCAL IMPACT:
License application fee of $100.
OPTIONS:
1) Approve license
2) Deny license
