BACKGROUND:
Permit Technician Tanya Nuss submitted her notice of resignation effective April 9th, 2020. Due to
vacancies in the Building Department, staff did not recommend advertising for the position in April. After
evaluation, the Council approved advertising for the Permit Technician position on July 21, 2020. This
position drew considerable interest as staff received over 80 applications. Interviews were conducted on
September 17th and 18th
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
Should the Council approve the hiring of Diane Wendt as Permit Technician?
PROPOSAL:
Staff recommends approving the hiring of Diane Wendt as Permit Technician at a rate of $23.42 per hour.
Diane has worked with permitting and fire protection for over 20 years.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Wages, taxes and benefits for this position for the remainder of the year are approximately $36,460. Wages,
taxes and benefits for this position are budgeted.
OPTIONS:
1) Hire Wendt at the terms described above.
2) Hire Wendt at different terms.
3) Offer the position to another candidate.
4) Re-advertise the position.
RECOMMENDATION:
If removed from the consent agenda:
“Move to approve the hiring of Diane Wendt as Permit Technician at a rate of $23.42 per hour.”
