ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Review month end activity update from fire department. Advise on any
additional information requested.
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
Year-to-date total incidents through October: 455 incidents.
2019 Year-to-date total incidents through October: 453 incidents.
We had 53 Incidents in October:
30 Medicals
3 Structure Fires
o Furnace fire in Lake Elmo
o Mutual-aid to Cottage Grove
o Auto-aid to Oakdale
4 Dispatched and cancelled en route
4 Fire Alarms
1 Aircraft Fire
o Non-life threatening injuries
7 Vehicle accidents
o Fatal crash on Hwy 36
1 Vehicle Fire
3 Other incident types
53 Total Incidents
Our average response time was 9.7 minutes from alarm to arrival.
21 calls had 3 or less responders minus the Duty Officer with 6 call having only 1 personnel on
the first due apparatus.
18 calls this month had only shift personnel for responders.
Drills for the Month
#1- RIT Part 2 instructed by Make the Move training.
#2- Drop Tank Operations
Part Time Staff Accomplishments:
- Cleaning and general maintenance at both stations.
- Inspected and repaired exterior lighting at Station #1.
- Vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Assisted with Burn Permit applications.
- Vehicle repairs as possible.
- Increased decontamination of apparatus and stations.
- Training of new personnel.
Points of Interest:
o 3 probationary members have now completed FFI and FFII and they are now working
towards completing their EMR and HAZMAT training. Congratulations!
o 2 members are going through Fire Inspector I training.
o We still have 2 open PT FF positions that we are actively recruiting for along with our
continued efforts to recruit new paid on call personnel.
o COVID is on the rise and with it, is the reminder that both fire stations are not open to the
public for the safety of the public and our personnel. Signs have been posted at both
stations.
o The annual fleet inspection, service and pump testing was conducted by EAM with past
month. Thankfully, they found very few issues with the apparatus.
