AGENDA ITEM: Public Works Director Report

ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL:
City Council is asked to review and accept, as part of Consent Agenda, a brief description of activities
that have taken place in the Public Works Department in the month of January, 2020.
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
STREETS
Attended to streets, parking lots and city owned sidewalks after multiple winter
weather events
Push back snow banks in cul de sacs and along road ways to increase storage area
Installed Plow mount and wiring harness on existing F450 to improve versatility
Wash and clean trucks and equipment after snow event
Continue tree trimming in ROWs and replace chipper blades
Replace batteries in radar trailer and place on Lake Jane for one week
Replace two tires on larger trailer and one on a pickup
Order replacement plow cutting edges
Updated PW and Building Departments assets list with Insurance Company
Auctioned off Fire Engine
Enforce winter sidewalk ordinance
Replenish road salt supply
Complete and submit the 2019 hazardous material inventory reports for MPCA and
the annual MDPS tier II emergency report
Complete ongoing maintenance on trucks and equipment
Complete annual HVAC inspections and maintenance on PW shop, parks building,
both fire halls and both city halls.
Attend to fallen tree afterhours in ROW
PARKS
Weekly garbage collection continues
Continue clearing snow and flooding skating rinks
Continue to groom Sunfish Lake Park trails after snow events
Purchase small aluminum trailer
Added surveillance/no dumping sign at Tablyn Park
Replaced the hockey goals at Lions Park

Repair tool cat after it locked up and shut down
Send out RFP for upcoming mowing contract
WATER
PW staff continue meter replacement program
Continue correcting water meter administrative issues
Place and received large meter order
Complete monthly bacteria and fluoride sampling
Complete Monthly Generator and Safety Inspections of Equipment and Facilities
Continue daily rounds, sampling and locates
Attended MPCA’s neighborhood meeting involving PFAS in Raleigh and Battle
creeks
Four PW staff members attended a free continuing ed water class in Brooklyn Park
Start 2019 ESPS water report and the DNR’s 2019 water conservation report
Assist engineering with existing well data for the new well 5 planning
Investigate utility van options
Replace chlorine tanks in booster station
SEWER
Continue Weekly Proactive Pump downs of all Lift stations & Monthly Float
Cleaning
Replace SCADA computer and update software
TPC continued to resolve software update issues
Install mixed flush valve on pump 1 at Lisbon lift station to reduce buildup of solids
Quote out replacement of the base elbow brackets for pump 2 at the Legion Lift
Station
Updated our responsibility area for Gopher State One Calls
Attended OSHA right to know training held at the Brookfield building for all city
employees
Begin 2019 Met Council sewer survey
Investigate pressure reducing valve inconsistencies and planning for engineering
Locate and make accessible all sanitary manholes is Hamlet for televising, jetting
and cleaning.
SURFACE WATER
Continue MS4 bee hive software formatting and data entry
Unthaw frozen culvert near Demontriville Lake
RECOMMENDATION:
Base on the activities listed above, City Council is respectfully asked to accept the January 2020 Public
Works Report.
