AGENDA ITEM: Old Village Phase 4 Street, Drainage, and Utility Improvements – Change
Order No. 3
SUBMITTED BY: Chad Isakson, Project Engineer
REVIEWED BY: Kristina Handt, City Administrator
Jack Griffin, City Engineer
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the City Council approve Change Order No. 3 for the Old Village
Phase 4 Street, Drainage, and Utility Improvements?
BACKGROUND: A-1 Excavating, Inc. was awarded a construction contract on June 5, 2018 to complete
the Old Village Phase 4 Street, Drainage, and Utility Improvements project. Construction is complete.
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: A-1 Excavating, Inc., has submitted a change order to address
additional work being requested by the City including:
1. Installation of two signs on 36th Street and Layton Avenue required concrete core drills not covered
in the contract.
2. Installation of the storm sewer pipe through 11320 Upper 33rd Street required the removal of an
existing wood staircase. The contractor removed and rebuilt the staircase to complete this work.
3. Change Storm Sewer Catch Basin 105B casting originally specified to a casting that would match
into knock down curb that was installed.
FISCAL IMPACT: This change order will increase the contract in the amount of $1,744.02 bringing the
revised construction contract to $1,731,999.23. With this change order, the project remains within the
authorized project budget and contingencies
RECOMMENDATION: Staff is recommending that the City Council approve, as part of the Consent
Agenda, Change Order No. 3 for the Old Village Phase 4 Street, Utility, and Drainage Improvements. If
removed from the consent agenda, the recommended motion for the action is as follows:
“Move to approve Change Order No. 3 for the Old Village Phase 4 Street, Drainage, and Utility
Improvements, thereby increasing the contract amount by $1,744.02”.
