AGENDA ITEM: Month End Fire Department Update for March 2020

ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Review month end activity update from fire department. Advise on
any additional information requested.
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
We had 40 calls in March:
28 Medicals
1 Structure Fire
2 Car accidents with injuries
2 Dispatched and cancelled en route
3 Fire alarms
2 Misc
2 Gas leak
40 Total
A Command vehicle did not respond on 21 calls for a response rate of 48%. Our average
response time was 9.5 minutes from alarm to arrival. 23 calls had 3 or less responders minus the
Duty Officer with 2 calls having only 1 personnel on the first due apparatus. 7 calls this month
had only shift personnel for responders.
Drills for the Month:
#1 - Bloodborne Pathogens (online)
#2 - COVID19 Operations meeting
Points of Interest:
- The department will continue to operate to the best of our ability through this national
crisis. All non-essential personnel and visitors are asked to refrain from being in the
fire stations until further notice in an effort to keep our members as safe as possible so
that we can serve the community.
- The COVID19 training was the last time the whole department will be conducting a
training together for the duration of the current pandemic. During it, we modeled
social distancing and discussed how we will operate throughout the event.
- We continue to have a vacancy which is now further delayed for hiring due to the
current pandemic.
Part Timer Accomplishments:
- Cleaning and general maintenance at both stations.
- Assisting with fire inspections and data entry of inspections.
- Vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Hydrant mapping and GIS tagging.
- Assisted with Burn Permit applications.
