BACKGROUND:
State statute requires that cities accept donations via resolution. The city has received a donation of
$2,000 to be used for a new park bleacher at the VFW ball field.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the City Council accept the donation of $2,000?
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: Lake Elmo Baseball wishes to make a donation of $2,000 to fund
one aluminum bleacher for the VFW ball field. The donation covers the cost of the bleacher. Included in
your packet is a resolution for the council to officially accept the donation
FISCAL IMPACT: Both existing VFW bleachers have reached the end of their life. Public Works
intended to replace or remove both this season. After a conversation with the ball club it was decided they
would purchase one if we purchased the other. The second bleacher will be funded from the Parks
Operating Budget.

RESOLUTION NO. 2020-066
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING DONATED FUNDS FROM LAKE ELMO
BASEBALL FOR AN ALUMINUM BLEACHER AT THE VFW PARK
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statues Section 465.03 provides that donations to the City
be accepted by resolution of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the City is specifically authorized to accept gifts and bequests for the
benefit of recreational services pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Section 471.17; and
WHEREAS, an Lake Elmo Baseball has donated $2,000 to the City of Lake Elmo
for an aluminum bleach at VFW park; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lake Elmo agrees that said
contribution would be of benefit to the citizens of Lake Elmo; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Lake Elmo, Minnesota, does hereby acknowledges and agrees to accept said donation of
$2,000 from the Lake Elmo Baseball on behalf of the citizens of Lake Elmo.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lake Elmo
designates the funds should be allocated onl y for the bleacher and at the VFW Park.
APPROVED by the Lake Elmo City Council on this 16th day of June, 2020.
