BACKGROUND:
State statute requires that cities accept donations via resolution. The city has received a donation of a
concrete memorial park bench valued at $1400 to be used at Lions Park near the ball field.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the City Council accept the memorial bench donation?
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: Jay and Vickie Pernu wish to make a donation of a concrete
memorial park bench to be placed at Lions Park near the ball field. Included in your packet is a resolution
for the council to officially accept the donation.
FISCAL IMPACT: The donated concrete bench will have no upfront cost to the city and will have
minimal future maintenance.

Do not accept the donation for the memorial bench at Lions Park

RESOLUTION NO. 2020-067
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A MEMORIAL BENCH FROM JAY AND
VICKIE PERNU TO BE PLACED AT LIONS PARK
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statues Section 465.03 provides that donations to the City
be accepted by resolution of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the City is specifically authorized to accept gifts and bequests for the
benefit of recreational services pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Section 471.17; and
WHEREAS, Jay and Vicki Pernu have donated a memorial bench valued at
$1,400 to the City of Lake Elmo to be placed at Lions Park; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lake Elmo agrees that said
contribution would be of benefit to the citizens of Lake Elmo; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Lake Elmo, Minnesota, does hereby acknowledges and agrees to accept said donation of
the memorial bench from the Jay and Vicki Pernu on behalf of the citizens of Lake Elmo.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lake Elmo
designates the memorial bench should be placed at Lions Park
APPROVED by the Lake Elmo City Council on this 16th day of June, 2020.
