AGENDA ITEM: Washington County Sheriff’s Contract for Services

BACKGROUND: The current contract with Washington County for Police Services was approved in December 2016. Last
year during the 2020 budget discussion, council discussed adding a deputy to the Lake Elmo contract in late 2020 to help cover some of the afternoon power shifts. The 2020 budget included funding for an
additional deputy beginning October 1, 2020.
ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the City approve an amendment to the contract with Washington County for Police Services in
order to add another deputy?
PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS:
Included in the packet is a proposed amendment to the contract for police services beginning no sooner than October 1.
FISCAL IMPACT: Attached to the contract amendment is an amended cost estimate for 2020. The 2020 budget is $773,255
so the proposed change to $761,334 is within the budgeted amount. OPTIONS:
1) Approve the amendment to the police contract 2) Amend and then approve the amendment to the police contract
3) Keep existing contract
RECOMMENDATION: If removed from the consent agenda:
Motion to approve amendment #1 to contract #10736 with Washington County
