SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED: The city council is required to annually appoint two city officials to the Board of Trustees of the Fire Relief Association, which manages the fire pension for firefighters and carries out related activities. The law requires that the officials include: the fire chief; 2) an elected official and 3) a second elected official or an appointed official. Councilmember Johnson has been serving in this capacity and is willing to continue to serve this function. Tom Bouthilet, Finance Director, has been serving as an appointed official. If the city council wishes to maintain the same appointees to the Board of Trustees, the following motion is appropriate.
Suggested motion for consideration:
Move to appoint Fire Chief Greg Malmquist, Councilmember Liz Johnson and Finance Director Tom Bouthilet to the Board of Trustees of the Fire Relief Association.
