ITEM: Appoint commissioners to existing vacancies on the planning and
parks
Commission.

SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED: The city council is being asked to make two
appointments to the Planning Commission and two to the Parks Commission
Planning Commission
Current commissioners Tom Armstrong (term expires 12/31/07) and Ben Roth (term
expires 1/4/08) have applied for a full term after serving one three year term. (2
term maximum according to code). Commissioner Schneider’s term doesn’t expire until
February 14, 2008, but was invited to be interviewed on January 22nd. Commissioner
Ptaceck third consecutive term expires February 29, 2008 and he cannot be appointed
to another term. Past practice has been to automatically move the First Alternate up,
which would be Commissioner VanZandt, to a full-voting member for a 3-year term
starting March, 2008. Commissioner McGinnis would then be moved from Second
Alternate to First Alternate. There are no new applications on file.
Parks Commission
Current commissioner Todd Bruchu (term expired 12/31/07) has applied for a full three
year term after serving one three year term. (2 year maximum according to code).
Commissioner Terry Bouthilet (term expired 12/31/07) did not reapply for a second
term. Past practice has been to automatically move the First Alternate, which would be
Susan Dunn, to a Full Voting member to serve her first three year term. Commissioner
Linda Wagner (second term expired 12/31/07) has served 2 consecutive three years
terms and is not eligible for reappointment according to code. This leaves vacancies for
First and Second Alternates. There are no new applications on file.
RECOMMENDATION:
Move to appoint two candidates to the Planning Commission and move the First
Alternate to a full voting member for a three year term and move the Second Alternate
to fill the First Alternate position.
Move to appoint two candidates to the Parks Commission.
