HomeMy WebLinkAbout#22 - Parks Commission ApptSTAFF REPORT DATE: January 19, 2021 REGULAR AGENDA ITEM: Parks Commission Appointments SUBMITTED BY: Kristina Handt, City Administrator BACKGROUND: The Parks Commission is established to review and make recommendations to the Council on the future development of city parks, including the establishment of and improvements to the parks, and to make recommendations to the Council on policies governing the maintenance and public use of the parks within the city. The Parks Commission shall consist of 7 members. The voting members shall be appointed by the City Council for a 3-year term. Jean Olinger’s term expired 12/31/20. The Parks Commission had a vacancy already for a term expiring 12/31/22. John Mayek submitted his resignation so the remainder of his term until 12/31/21 can be filled. Essentially there is a 1, 2 and 3 year term available. Current commissioners reside in the Old Village, Meyer’s Pineridge (51st St), Tamarack Farms Estates, and Tapestry. ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Who should the Council appoint to the Parks Commission? PROPOSAL: The city received applications for Parks Commission from Tracey Petersen, Hank Hoelscher, Andrew Hodges, Eva Lee, Peter Kastler, Juan Luis Rivera-Reyes, Susan Dunn and Jean Olinger. Interviews were held on January 12th for those who met the December 18th deadline for applications and were available that night. OPTIONS: Any of the above individuals would be eligible for appointment to the commission. RECOMMENDATION: “Move to appoint ____________ to the Parks Commission for a term ending 12/31/23” “Move to appoint ____________ to the Parks Commission for a term ending 12/31/22” “Move to appoint ____________ to the Parks Commission for a term ending 12/31/21”
