HomeMy WebLinkAbout#07 - Hire of Fire Inspector STAFF REPORT DATE: April 20, 2021 CONSENT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Jake Dickson, Assistant City Administrator REVIEWED BY: Dustin Kalis, Fire Chief AGENDA ITEM: Approve Hire of Fire Inspector/Lieutenant BACKGROUND: The City authorized the creation of a Fire Inspector/Lieutenant Position on March 2nd. Staff advertised the position from March 4th to March 19th. Staff received and evaluated 17 applications and conducted interviews with assistance from outside Fire Department personnel on March 30th. After conducting interviews the panel recommended offering the position to Anthony Svoboda. Anthony brings over 10 years of fire service experience and, most recently, 7 years of experience as a Fire Inspector/Lieutenant. ISSUE BEFORE COUNCIL: Should the Council make a conditional job offer to Anthony Svoboda? PROPOSAL DETAILS/ANALYSIS: Staff is recommending the Council approve a job offer to Svoboda contingent on satisfactory completion of background screening, drug screening, pre-employment physical and psychological testing. Staff is further recommending a starting wage of $41.02/Hour. Svoboda would begin employment on May 3rd. FISCAL IMPACT: Fire Inspector/Lieutenant wages are included in the 2021 budget. The cost to hire and equip the Fire Inspector/Lieutenant is approximately $4,000. OPTIONS: 1) Make conditional job offer to continue with process. 2) Do not approve conditional job offer. RECOMMENDATION: If removed from consent agenda: “Motion to hire Anthony Svoboda as Fire Inspector/Lieutenant at a rate of $41.02 per hour.” ATTACHMENTS: None
