SUMMARY
At the August meeting , the park commission approved moving forward in the design process for the construction of two picnic shelters of the appropriate size and scale for Carriage Station
and Demontreville Parks.
The City has been informed that Lowes Inc. will be providing approximately $11,000 in materials and supplies for a picnic shelter project. Since the gifted materials and supplies will
cover nearly all of the materials and supplies associated with a 20’x32’ shelter, the commission has expressed an interest in utilizing these resources for a shelter at Demontreville
Park. A shelter of this size seems more in scale for the park and the Park CIP includes a picnic shelter for Demontreville in the 2009. A smaller shelter would then be built at
Carriage Station Park.
The council authorized the hiring of Jerry Mazzara of Design Forum to do some conceptual schematic designs of park shelters at its June 17 meeting. The intent was that these schematic
designs would be used in guiding the Carriage Station picnic shelter project. Since the commission is now interested in moving forward in the design of two picnic shelters, Jerry will
be making a presentation to the commission outlining various design options for the two shelters. The presentation will include a proposed size and location for each of the shelters.
A Carriage Station neighborhood project meeting was held June 24 in an effort to solicit neighborhood input on the project. Residents of the neighborhood have been informed that a project
update / presentation is scheduled for the September 15 commission meeting and have been invited and encouraged to attend.
Neighbors in the Demontreville Park neighborhood have been invited to a “Picnic Shelter Project Neighborhood Meeting, scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 18 at the park. The
purpose of the meeting is to share work to date on the project and gain neighborhood input.
