BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The City has a long standing contract with Washington County for services related to grooming the ski trails at Sunfish Lake Park. The City also has a history as a DNR Grant-In-Aid
Ski Trail. The GIA program provides limited funds to trails owned and operated by both private trail organizations and local units of government. The trails were groomed twice last
winter and not at all the previous winter.
At the December meeting, the commission discussed the possible establishment of a policy related to the grooming of trails at Sunfish Lake Park, specifically the level of service desired
for grooming. There was support for consistent grooming based on conditions and use with consideration of the unique characteristics of the trails, which are on relatively rolling
terrain sheltered by woodlands.
Staff will report on the level of grooming and trail use at the park thus far in the season.
